What Instagram DM automation actually costs an Indian creator
A $15/month tool is not ₹1,437 a month to an Indian creator — but it is not ₹2,000 either. Here is the actual arithmetic, with the sticker prices of eight tools checked on 24 August 2026.
Most comparisons of Instagram DM automation tools list a dollar figure and stop there. If you are paying from an Indian card, that figure is not what leaves your account. Three things happen between the sticker price and your statement, and only one of them is commonly explained correctly.
The sticker prices, checked on 24 August 2026
These are entry-level paid plans as listed on each vendor's own pricing page. Free tiers are noted separately further down.
| Tool | Listed price | Billed in | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| IGSender | ₹499/mo (₹399 billed yearly) | INR | Unlimited DMs, 10 accounts |
| LinktoDM | ₹699/mo (₹542 billed yearly) | INR | Unlimited contacts, 3 accounts |
| InstantDM | $9.99/mo | USD | Unlimited automation, 1 account |
| CreatorFlow | $15/mo ($12 billed yearly) | USD | 5,000 DMs, 2 accounts |
| ReplyRush | $25/mo (Boost) | USD | 40,000 DMs, 3 accounts |
| Earnly Magic Link | Free | — | Comment-to-DM only |
What actually gets added on top
1. The exchange rate — and it is not the one on Google
The RBI reference rate on 20 August 2026 was ₹95.64 to the dollar. Your card issuer does not use that rate. Most Indian issuers convert at roughly 1–2% above the interbank rate, and the exact markup is bank-specific and rarely published on the statement as a separate line.
2. A foreign transaction fee, typically 1.5–3.5%
This one is in your card's schedule of charges, and it varies more than people expect between issuers and card tiers. Check yours rather than assuming a number — on a small monthly subscription it is a few tens of rupees, but it recurs every month.
3. GST at 18% — and this applies either way
This is the part most comparisons get wrong. GST is not a penalty for buying foreign software. Under India's OIDAR rules a foreign vendor selling digital services to an Indian consumer is required to charge Indian GST too, and a domestic vendor charges it on a rupee price. Eighteen percent lands on both. It is not a reason to prefer a rupee-priced tool.
So the genuine cost difference between a USD-priced tool and a rupee-priced one is the FX markup plus the foreign transaction fee — realistically 3–5%, not the 20%+ some comparisons imply. On a $15 plan that is roughly ₹45–75 a month. Real, recurring, and much smaller than the difference in sticker price.
Putting it together
Taking ₹95.8 to the dollar, a 3% combined FX markup and foreign transaction fee, and 18% GST on the converted total:
| Tool | Listed | ≈ Landed cost / month |
|---|---|---|
| IGSender | ₹499 | ≈ ₹589 |
| LinktoDM | ₹699 | ≈ ₹825 |
| InstantDM | $9.99 | ≈ ₹1,163 |
| CreatorFlow | $15 | ≈ ₹1,746 |
| ReplyRush Boost | $25 | ≈ ₹2,910 |
The headline is the base price, not the forex. A creator choosing between IGSender and CreatorFlow is deciding between roughly ₹589 and ₹1,746 a month; the foreign transaction fee accounts for about ₹50 of that ₹1,157 gap. Anyone telling you the fees are the main story is selling you something.
Where the rupee-priced tools do not win
Two honest caveats, because the cheapest landed cost is not automatically the right tool.
- •LinktoDM's free plan is more generous than IGSender's: 3 creator accounts and 2,000 contacts, against IGSender's single account and 1,000 DMs a month. If you are not paying yet, that matters more than the Pro price.
- •LinktoDM also ships AI intent triggers and AI auto-reply; IGSender does not.
- •CreatorFlow includes geo analytics and an email gate, and InstantDM adds Facebook automation and a visual flow builder. If you need those specifically, the rupee price is not the deciding factor.
- •Earnly's Magic Link is genuinely free with no card at all. If comment-to-DM is all you need, nothing here beats free.
Free tiers, compared
| Tool | Free plan |
|---|---|
| Earnly Magic Link | Free product, comment-to-DM only |
| LinktoDM | 3 creator accounts, 2,000 contacts |
| ReplyRush | 1,500 DMs/month |
| IGSender | 1,000 DMs/month, 1 account, 10 campaigns |
| CreatorFlow | 500 DMs/month, 1 account |
How to check this yourself
- •Find the foreign transaction fee in your card's schedule of charges — it is not always the number the internet quotes.
- •Compare landed cost, not sticker price, when the tools bill in different currencies.
- •Re-check quarterly. Every price on this page has a date on it because they all move.
- •Ignore GST when comparing a foreign tool with an Indian one. It applies to both.
